Bangladesh Violence: Protests Held in Delhi, Kolkata and Other Cities Over Safety of Minorities in Bangladesh

Protests over the reported attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh continue to spread across multiple Indian cities, with demonstrations reported from New Delhi, Siliguri, Hyderabad, Jammu, and Kolkata. Visuals from different locations show protesters attempting to march towards Bangladeshi diplomatic offices, prompting heightened security and barricading by local police. In New Delhi, demonstrators gathered outside the Bangladesh High Commission, where several layers of barricades were installed to prevent protesters from moving closer to the diplomatic premises. Police officials remained deployed in large numbers, appealing for calm and preventing any breach of security. Similar preparations were seen in Kolkata, where protesters assembled near the Deputy High Commission office amid tight police arrangements. Protesters carried banners and placards calling for the protection of minorities in Bangladesh and urging the Indian government to take stronger diplomatic steps. Effigies were burned at some locations as a symbolic act of protest. Women and religious figures were also seen participating in the demonstrations. Authorities clarified that no permission had been granted for protests near diplomatic installations and emphasized that law-and-order would be maintained. Police intervened wherever attempts were made to cross barricades, ensuring that protests did not escalate into violence. The protests follow renewed public outrage after reports of violence against a Hindu youth in Bangladesh. India has consistently raised concerns regarding the safety of minority communities through diplomatic channels and reiterated its expectation that Bangladesh will ensure protection of all citizens. Officials said the situation remains under control and is being closely monitored across all affected cities.
