Samsung Testing 12,000mAh, 18,000mAh Batteries With Dual Cell and Triple Cell Designs, Leaked Reports Show

Samsung is reportedly testing high-capacity silicon-carbon smartphone batteries, including 12,000mAh and 18,000mAh prototypes, according to a tipster. A larger 20,000mAh prototype reportedly failed durability tests after about 960 charge cycles. The 12,000mAh version uses a dual-cell design, while the 18,000mAh model uses three cells. Samsung SDI is said to be refining cell stacking and battery management systems as testing continues. Silicon-carbon batteries can store more energy than lithium-ion cells, potentially enabling thinner smartphones with significantly larger battery capacities in future devices.
