    India और European Union के बीच चल रही Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks अब final stage में हैं और इसका बड़ा असर Indian auto market पर पड़ सकता है। रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक, सरकार EU से आने वाली cars पर import duty 110% से घटाकर 40% करने की तैयारी में है। अगर ऐसा होता है, तो यह Indian auto sector का अब तक का सबसे बड़ा बदलाव होगा। फिलहाल foreign cars पर 70% से 110% तक tax लगता है, जिससे BMW, Mercedes और Volkswagen जैसी brands बेहद महंगी हो जाती हैं। नए प्रस्ताव में 15,000 यूरो से ऊपर की petrol और diesel cars पर तुरंत duty cut मिल सकता है और सालाना करीब 2 लाख cars को फायदा होगा। आगे चलकर duty 10% तक घटने की संभावना है। हालांकि, electric vehicles को पहले 5 साल इस राहत से बाहर रखा गया है, ताकि Tata Motors और Mahindra जैसी Indian कंपनियों को protection मिल सके। EU भारत का सबसे बड़ा trading partner है, और यह deal 2030 तक auto market को नई दिशा दे सकती है।
