BMC Election 2026: Seat-Sharing Talks Intensify as BMC Nominations Begin in Maharashtra

Political activity has intensified in Maharashtra ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, with key developments emerging from both the ruling and opposition camps. Sources say the Mahayuti alliance is close to finalising its seat-sharing formula after a five-hour-long late-night meeting between Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and BJP state president Ravindra Chavan at Shinde’s Thane residence. Senior leaders, including MP Shrikant Shinde and minister Uday Samant, were also present. The discussions continued even as the nomination process for the civic polls has already begun. At the same time, uncertainty has surfaced within the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). According to sources, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) chief Sharad Pawar has not given his approval to a proposed alliance between Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray. Pawar is reportedly unhappy with the seat-sharing proposal, under which his party is said to be offered only 10–12 seats out of Mumbai’s 227 wards, while it is demanding a larger share. With a joint press conference expected later today, political circles are closely watching for clarity on alliances.
