Bengal Polls: Humayun Kabir’s Murshidabad Rally with AIMIM Support Signals Major Political Shift Ahead of Bengal 2026 Polls

West Bengal’s political landscape is set for a significant development as former Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir holds a major rally in Murshidabad today, with support from AIMIM leaders, marking a potential turning point ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Although AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi will not attend in person, senior party representatives, including state president Imran Solanki, are expected to share the stage with Kabir. Organisers have claimed that up to one million supporters could participate, making it one of the largest political gatherings in the region this year. Humayun Kabir, who recently launched his own political outfit after quitting the TMC, said the rally represents the formal beginning of his campaign to offer Bengal voters an alternative political vision. He added that plans to hold the event at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground were postponed due to venue unavailability, prompting the Murshidabad gathering instead. The rally has already triggered sharp reactions from the BJP. State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar criticised the emerging alliance, questioning opposition unity and accusing rival leaders of opportunistic politics. With minority votes expected to play a decisive role, today’s rally is being closely watched as a possible reshaping of electoral equations in West Bengal.
