ALBANIA IN CRISIS: Violence Erupts in Tirana as Anti-Government Protest Turns Chaotic

Anti-government protests in Tirana, the capital of Albania, once again turned violent on Tuesday as the opposition Democratic Party led a massive demonstration demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister. Thousands of protesters took to the streets, and Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha addressed the crowd during the rally, intensifying calls for the Prime Minister to step down. During the protest, the situation escalated dramatically. Demonstrators allegedly threw firecrackers and fireworks toward government buildings, leading to chaos and panic in the area. Visuals from the scene show explosions and flames erupting near official structures. Police forces acted swiftly to control the unrest. Water cannons were initially used to extinguish fires and disperse the crowd. As tensions further escalated, security personnel fired tear gas shells to push back aggressive protesters. This marks the third violent protest in recent months in Albania over demands for the Prime Minister’s resignation. Authorities had anticipated unrest and deployed more than 1,300 police officers for security arrangements. Despite the heavy deployment, clashes broke out, and parts of the city witnessed destruction and fire as the rally spiraled out of control.
