Patna NEET Student Death Case: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Recommends CBI Probe Amid Rising Pressure

The mysterious death of a NEET aspirant in Patna remains unresolved, intensifying political and public pressure on the Bihar government. In a significant development, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has formally recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case. The Bihar government has written to the Centre seeking a CBI investigation, a move confirmed publicly by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. Samrat Choudhary stated that the investigation must be conducted in a transparent and impartial manner to ensure justice for the victim. This decision comes a day after the student’s parents met the Director General of Police (DGP) and alleged serious lapses in the investigation. The family expressed dissatisfaction with the Special Investigation Team (SIT), accusing the police of negligence and attempting to cover up crucial aspects of the case. The incident occurred at Shambhu Hostel in Patna, where the student was residing. Since the beginning, the role of the police has been under scrutiny, with the SIT also failing to make a breakthrough. Opposition parties, including the RJD, have accused the state police of incompetence and announced plans to raise the issue in the Bihar Assembly session starting February 2. While the ruling side maintains that the government follows a strict “no compromise on crime” policy, the opposition alleges that the CBI probe recommendation is a defensive move to counter mounting criticism and protests. The case has now become a major political flashpoint, with demands for swift justice growing louder.
